There'll also be the usual support program of films, debates, presentations form artists and several workshops planning to open up the tactics and strategies involved in addresssing a urban general public. An ongoing relationship with Rogaland Kunstskolen will ensure a trading of skills to the next generation of vandals with an eye for the fine arts.

Various artists including Zeus,Know Hope will be taking the opening two weeks classes and teaching the "art of getting up" to a bemused but enthusiastic crowd. Some of the workshops and discussions will be open to the public eg. Graffiti Research Lab,All participating artists will be in town and working directly on walls both in town and in Tou Scene, We'll also be doing our traditional "Call for Walls", an opportunity for companies, private individuals and the local council to get involved.

We will of course also be hitting up the streets of Stavanger and the surrounding areas in our specially "designed for concealment" Nuart graf mobile. This is our "keeping it real" alibi, (odd that if you stick a flashing light on top of something then people tend to steer well clear).

We'd like to thank everyone involved, not least the artists, but also Sabotaz for the cans and moral support, Tou Scene forallowing us to return to a more urban and inkeeping setting for the festival, Rogaland Kunstskolen for allowing us access to young impressionable students, and to everyone involved in this amazingly dynamic scene.

NUART 08 : FILM PROGRAM

Each year we screen a series of independent films in support of the main show, below are a series of trailers from this years films

GRL the complete first season

Friday 5th of September at 16.00
Followed by discussion panel of nuart artists at 15.00

G.R.L. The Complee7 First Season (Trailer) from fi5e on Vimeo.

From their origins in the trash room of a non-profit in Manhattan to their emergence as the instigators of an international art movement, Graffiti Research Lab: The Complete First Season documents the adventures of an architect and an engineer who quit their day jobs to develop high-tech tools for the art underground. The film follows the GRL and their network of graffiti artist collaborators (and commercial imitators) across four continents as they write on skyscrapers with lasers, mock advertisers with homemade tools, get in trouble with The Department of Homeland Security and make activism fun again. Primarily using video footage from point-and-shoot digital cameras (“The Pocket School”) and found-content on the web, the movie’s visual style draws as much from the art of the power point presentation and viral media as conventional documentary cinema. Narrated by GRL co-founders, Roth and Powderly, The Complete First Season makes a humorous and insightful argument for free speech in public, open source in pop culture, the hacker spirit in graffiti and not asking for permission in general. The film was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008. Available 24/7 on The Pirate Bay.

NUART 07 : PROGRAM

The Nuart Festival was initiated in 2001 and follows the ethos behind the Nu teams desire to provide a regional annual platform for national and international artists who operate outside of traditional gallery systems. The event aims to stimulate debate by challenging entrenched notions of what art is and can be by celebrating the production of progressive contemporary urban art and street culture in the 21st century.

Nuart 2007 is our most ambitious yet, a truly international line up of artists have been invited to Stavanger to produce what promises to be one of the years most outstanding “urban art” events. From legendary and much respected pioneers such as Blek Le Rat and Charles Krafft to relative newcomers Slinkachu and Wordtomother, Nuart 07 explodes across mediums and the city from the central show based this year at Stavanger’s main Museum of Fine arts, Rogaland Kunstmuseum.

The event includes one extensive two month long gallery show, city wide street work (both legal and not so), film screenings, artist’s presentations, workshops, concerts and much more. Tristan Manco, renowned author of “Stencil Graffiti”, “Street Logo’s” & “Graffiti Brasil”, will be chairing the main panel debate and taking part in a number of events over the opening weekend.

The event is curated and organized by NuProductions Martyn Reed and Leon from c6.org

We'd like to thank everyone involved, not least the artists, but also Montana for the cans and moral support, Rogaland Kunstmuseum for recognising and ensuring that this work secures a place in Norway's fine art history, Rogaland Kunstskolen for allowing us access to young impressionable students, and to everyone involved in this amazingly dynamic scene.

Gallery

This years static show is at Rogaland Kunstmuseum, the regions largest "fine art" space. If funds allow, we hope to host a series of related "live" events during our two month occupation of the gallery space.

RASH

A feature documentary by Nicholas Hansen

FRIDAY 07 September 16:00 at Kino 1

www.rashfilm.com

"Against a pulsating soundtrack by True Live¹s Ryan Ritchie, the graffiti artists¹ poetic brilliance is passionately uncovered by director Nicholas Hansen who exposes the talent and wealth of key players in Melbourne¹s street art scene."
Future Movies reviews the The London Australian Film Festival 2006

²..it really opened up many peoples¹ eyes as to the thought, planning, creativity, and vision that underpins a large percentage of street art.²

Dr Cameron Cartiere, Birkbeck College London

With the wonderful tagline "Scratch it and it spreads", Rash was one of the audience favourites at last year's Melbourne International Film Festival. Deservedly so.
Sacha Molitorisz, Rash, April 23, 2006, The Age TV Guide

It is a smart, instructive, funny, finger-on-the-pulse documentary about Melbourne's thriving, though much-disdained, street art culture.
Paul Kalina, Stop, or I'll shoot The Age Green Guide, 20-04-06

"If you know Melbourne, you might recognize tags and styles in this literally awesome film about the contemporary urban expression born of rebellion..."

Independent Cinema Office 04/06

INSIDE/OUTSIDE

Directed Andreas Johnsen & Nis Boye Møller Rasmussen

THURSDAY 06 September 16:00 at Kino 1

Award winning documentary featuring Swoon, Zevs, Os Gemeos, KR, Ron English and many more. Screened in association with Kino 1

INSIDE OUTSIDE is a film about the energy artists get when working in the street. An energy they're missing when exhibiting in galleries and museums, an energy that brings life to their art and to their own lives.

It´s an energy that's partly caused by the fact that everything these artists do in the street is illegal; "Anything that gives you security is eventually going to restrict you at some point", says Swoon about the art galleries.

The artists featured in INSIDE OUTSIDE all face some kind of dilemma with the restrictions and norms of the society they live in, the forces of the commercial art world and the advertising industry who are looking for the next big thing and want to have their bite of the energy and coolness that the street art scene is brimming with.

Meet among others:
ZEVS / Paris
SWOON / KR / EARSNOT/ New York City
OS GEMEOS / PIGMEUS/ São Paulo
ADAMS & ITSO / Stockholm, Copenhagen
RON ENGLISH / Jersey City
