BRAD DOWNEY STREET WORKSHOPS AT NUART
Some fantastic impromptu street work from Brad Downey and co during his workshop at Nuart in September. Amazing how Brad improvises with objects in a city and keeps it fresh. Sorry for the bad quality video, shot on a mobile phone on the run.
NECKFACE, HALLOWEEN
Neckface, the only street artist worthy of halloween, show opens tomorrow at ohwow gallery
Neckface will turn Miami inside out for his premiere solo exhibition in the Magic City. This Halloween night, Neckface will deconstruct all 10,000 square feet of O.H.W.O.W. and build a world like no other. Featuring a large-scale haunted house installation, complete with Neckface's iconic imagery, the Devil’s Disciple exhibition is designed to frighten viewers as they enter the space.
The crux of the exhibition though will surely be Neckface's new work. A deviation from the norm, it is chock-full of his signature imagery interweaved with a personal dimension that is much more palpable in the paintings. After so many years of crafting a persona and building up walls around himself and his moniker, the reclusive Neckface has finally cracked open the door ever so slightly and let us into his world.
With the introduction of historical and pop culture references into the visual storytelling, the paintings have grown more complex and more intricate. This newer imagery is balanced by considered application of wit throughout the work in the signature Neckface hand style. In addition to the paintings, a series of metal mask sculptures will be on display. Reminiscent of African Woyo masks, Neckface reworks the sculptures with sharp edges and creates an object that is distinctly contemporary and unmistakably his.
There's no doubt that Devil’s Disciple will be a breakout exhibition for Neckface. The work created will surely be considered his finest to date and is anticipated to redefine him and endear him to a whole new legion of fans.

SHEP FAIREY UNVEILS NEW MURAL FOR LEVI'S

From Reuters
World Renowned Street Artist Shepard Fairey Publicly Unveils a New Art
Installation Outside the Levi's(R) Times Square Flagship Store
Special installation commemorates the launch of Obey x Levi's(R), a
limited-edition clothing collection jointly designed by Fairey, OBEY Clothing
and the Levi's Brand
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- To commemorate the launch of the new,limited-edition Obey x Levi's® apparel collection -- a line of street-inspired
menswear styles, co-designed by street artist, Shepard Fairey, his OBEY
Clothing collection and the Levi's® Brand -- the artist unveiled a special,
public art installation last night in front of the Levi's® Store in Times
Square. Executed on Military Island, in the heart of one of the world's
busiest intersections, this special event offered the public a rare, inside
view of the acclaimed street artist's unique process. The finished piece is a
layered collage of varying imagery, simultaneously addressing issues that
range from global warming to the power of propaganda to influence. To further
mark the occasion, Fairey also created a series of four new poster designs and
immediately following the mural's unveiling, the artist signed museum-quality
reproductions of these new works for fans who had eagerly lined up outside the
denim leader's Times Square store. The publicly-executed mural unveiled last
night was later affixed to the outside facade of the neighboring Levi's® Store
location and measures approximately 7.5 feet high x 24 feet wide. This work
is a part of a much larger Fairey-developed mural adorning the Times Square
store's exterior that is 68 feet in total length and wraps around the corner
of Broadway onto 44th Street. The work will be displayed outside of the
Levi's® Store in Times Square through November 5, at which point it will be
dismantled and removed from public view.

As part of Nuart's educational program, several artists give presentations. Brad decided he was too depressed to face the audience, so instead, he held his Q&A whilst sitting up a tree. A mad but wonderful sight to watch.

UNUSUAL STREET ART

Can't remember now where I lifted these from, but love the nature of the work, accidental street art ! If anyone knows the original source feel free to get in touch.
HERAKUT BAR

Was out at the weekend at folken venue, had forgotten that we produced this wonderful Herakut piece back in 2007.

BANKSY PORTRAIT

There's been a ton of hype surrounding this secondary market show that features a few Banksy works, one London paper leading with the headline "Artist Banksy set to reveal Self Portrait", lazy journalism combined with sales promotion hype. We understand there'll be a few secondary market prints for sale and this canvas. If you were planning to head down there to spend your hard earned, or was hoping to see a nice self portrait.. or if you're from further afield, we have it on good authority that this is the work.
NUART VANDALS
After 100 liters of paint, countless hours of work, cold pizza and warm beer. The show is gone ! But, we'll always know it's right there, just under the surface.
A thousand thanks to GT, Kristel, Pernille, Tore, Jon & Einar for the massive effort getting this up as well as down.

NUART BUFFED !

Started rigging down the indoor show this week, feels like such a crazy thing to do but we had only hired the gallery for a month. I love the transient nature of street art, but this so instant and final. Feels very wrong. Other years the venues have organised the paint out but this year we got stuck with it. Man it sucks, not only is it madly difficult, the Skewville and Supine in particular, but it's also a little heartbreaking. I just painted out some of the best work I've seen in all our years running Nuart. Next year I'm hiring someone instead.
Just like to say a big thanks to everyone who made it to the show. Particularly our overseas guests ! Best one yet by far !

NEW NICK WALKER & DOTMASTERS

An interesting little commission from Sandnes council came our way recently, could we provide art for a newly built extension to an high school for kids aged 13-16. The school is in a small village outside Sandnes with a population of just 5000. What better place to start an Urban Art collection we thought.
Schools and councils would normally buy work from local galleries with little or no relevance to education or what the kids are into. We spent a few months buying bits and pieces including a nice little Banksy print and made the Dolk a centre piece of this Salon Style hang. Next we flew in a couple of mates, Nick Walker and Leon Dotmaster and created these stunning murals. Fun was had by all. One of the most fulfilling projects we've been involved with. It even made the national news !

NUSHIT SKATE

We've been working with Frode Goa the founder of Shit Skateboard Company for a while now. Frode's one of the good guys with an incredibly positive energy and outlook of life, I like to meet him on rainy Monday mornings when I'm pissed off as his radiant energy usually cheers me up and dries my clothes. Frode founded Shit back in 2000 after a decade of falling off his skateboard, since then it's gone from strength to strength.
We hooked up with Shit for an exclusive Nushit product range in 2008 and followed it up this year with a little exhibition during opening night from some of the countries top street and competition skaters including Norwegian Champion and Shit Team Skater Gustav Tonnesen.
Check out the ridiculous ramp Frode and co knocked together the night before, roughly decorated by Skewville, Choe and Chris Stain in proper street style !

FUTURA, ODYSSEY TWO IN BERLIN
Futura is in Berlin working on a new retrospective show, word has it that all the work is for sale and ranges from pieces he did 20 years ago to brand new work.
Futura is in Berlin presenting Odyssey Two. Words are useless … we just have to sit back and watch him work.
“The show focuses on the dual themes of memory and the past, and the influence these have on an individual’s imagined world. Futura’s obsessions with space and hyperindustrial landscapes grew from his adolescence: a time when man first landed on the moon, and when the New York skyline soared with a mass of fresh skyscrapers. But the world in his pieces is entirely unique – a place that has developed in his mind over time, where remnants of earlier memories co-exist with imagined, abstract landscapes.”
