THE ART OF GRAFFITI REMOVAL

Strange little art piece documentary on the Subconscious art of Graffiti Removal from 2001.

The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal

16mm/Digital video – 16 minutes – 2001

Emerging from the human psyche and showing characteristics of abstract expressionism, minimalism and Russian constructivism, graffiti removal has secured its place in the history of modern art while being created by artists who are unconscious of their artistic achievements.

It is no coincidence that funding for “anti-graffiti” campaigns often outweighs funding for the arts. Graffiti removal has subverted the common obstacles blocking creative expression and become one of the more intriguing and important art movements of our time. Emerging from the human psyche and showing characteristics of abstract expressionism, minimalism and Russian constructivism, graffiti removal has secured its place in the history of modern art while being created by artists who are unconscious of their artistic achievements.

URBAN PROJECTIONS

555 KUBIK | facade projection | from urbanscreen on Vimeo.

Loving this projection work from the Urbanscreen group. Not exactly "Street Art" I guess, but.. hey, it's on the street and it certainly looks arty.

555 KUBIK was the title of a facade video projection at the Kunsthalle in Hamburg (Germany), taking place last May. The idea behind it was: “How it would be, if a house was dreaming”. Daniel Rossa was responsible for the art direction and decided to use some visualisations of the inside of the building together with other animations. The facade isn’t that exciting itself, but the projection takes it to a whole new level.

3rd December 2009 - 16th January 2010

From Lazinc

To cap off the first year in the splendid surroundings of our new Rathbone Place gallery, Lazarides will be bringing some of the biggest names in street art to London for a spectacular group show where much of the art will be nowhere near the cosy confines of our glamorous gallery.

Titled Grifters, the December event will focus on all new work from the Outsider artists in all manner of mediums, from sculpture to installation, canvas to collage, paper to poster, performance to photography. Alongside the gallery offerings, a series of paintings and street sculptures will begin to pop up all over the City from the end of November right through December, so keep your eyes peeled (unless you work for the council, in which case we don’t know what you’re talking about, we’ve never heard of any of these artists, ever).

Those of you sharing a combined love of art and staying warm, worry not, for you’ll be relieved to hear that the Rathbone Place gallery will be turning up the heat in more ways than one, and handing over all four floors of the gallery to our Outsiders group of artists, with a special installation from Lucy McLauchlan covering the entire staircase.

The exhibitions, street interventions, and our brand new website launch will take place in our galleries at Lazarides 11 Rathbone Place, Fitzrovia, London, W1T 1HR, and SHOP at Lazarides 8 Greek Street, Soho, London, W1D 4DG, as well as out and about across the streets of London from 4th December until 16th January 2010.

Locations for street work can be found on lazinc.
