STEN & LEX SHOW

Nuart friends and family Sten & Lex with their first official "gallery" show.
Gallery: CO2 contemporary art
Artist: Sten&Lex
Opening: Friday, Marzo 12, 2010 | at 18.30
Pres Preview: Borgo Vittorio 9b, 00193 Roma
Show Duration: March 12 – April 30, 2010
For his second engagement with Italian street art, Giorgio Galotti is pleased to present the first official private show of the two Roman street artists, Sten&Lex.
The title of the show refers to the acronyms of their tags, which combined indicate the revolution of their decision to engage in work together, no longer individually, but side by side.
Known primarily for their public interventions, they have been stimulating interest with press and critics for some time, attracting all kinds of fans, not only those of graffiti and street art, but also those involved in more institutional aspects of contemporary art. This exhibition is the official debut of the artists in a gallery setting. For this reason, the progression of the display was studied diligently from conception to development in order to maintain synchronization between the poetic language and narrative in their works.

BANKSY WOZ ERE

Wether it is snogging policemen, a House of Commons full of chimpanzees, Princess Diana on a £10 note, or I Don’t Believe in Global Warming half-submerged in a canal, a Banksy makes you smile, but it also forces you to take a second look, to think a little deeper.
It’s funny how this anonymous graffiti artist evokes such strong affection in people, particularly those who don’t usually reckon that art has much to say to them.
“Banksy, love ’im,” says a mate who wouldn’t be seen dead at Tate Modern. Another friend, who met him at a crusty travellers’ party in Bristol, says: “He’s very quiet, sweet though, very Bristol, scruffy and funny, but you’d never know if you didn’t know, if you know what I mean.”

STREET ART & POLITICS PART 2

Oh dear. If the idea wasn't bad enough already, they then list Antony Gormley and Jeremy Deler as street artists ? hello...why oh why..
Following on from Shepard Fairey’s seminal communist inspired graphics for Obama’s presidential campaign, it seems that the UK has cottoned on to the idea of using street artists as a medium for relating to their audience. Already being described as ‘an innovative election strategy’, Gordon Brown and the Labour party have recently contacted Steve Lazarides – the renown gallery owner and art dealer – about using his artists for their new electoral campaign. With urban artists such as Pure Evil, Antony Gormley and Jeremy Deller all in the frame, this could be one of the most adventurous campaigns Labour have ever committed to, particularly in light of the current political climate and the barriers broken down by the American presidential campaign. Stiff competition in the spray can stakes can however be found closer to home, as the leader of the opposition David Cameron’s recent batch of campaign posters proved a hit with roving street artists and vandalistic political commentators alike…

STREET ART, THE EPHEMERAL REBELLION
Featuring Swoon, Blek Le Rat, Brad Downey and more, why it's promoted by the filmmakers as being "better than Banksy" seems a tad desperate, otherwise looks quite interesting.

FAILE/BÄST AT LAZARIDES

Haunts of 80s populist culture inspire the distinctive concept show. Faile and Bast’s signature elements will resound throughout the galleries, no nook left uncovered, creating an explosively immersive installation. Interaction with a variety of participatory components will be encouraged among gallery visitors along with the added bonus of being able to purchase Faile artworks for a mere £2, unless that is, you want to use them within the exhibition, intrigued? You should be.
A hop, skip and jump away at Lazarides’ Rathbone gallery will be a 10-year retrospective of Faile’s work. Having emerged on the New York scene in the late 90s, they’ve gathered a firm following over the years with their flypostered vision transforming many a street the world over. Creating original imagery from an array of pop culture, their practice amalgamates: prints, paintings, collage, sculpture, murals and urban interventions.

GIANT ROBOT. SUPPORT !
Probably one of ther most important articles we've posted and one of the reasons blogs like this need to exist. Simply to get the word out. Over the past few years, there's been an enormous expansion of interest in outsider arts, I don't mean outsider in a Camus'esque way, that's for the actual artists hey, but more "outsider" in those who could quite comfortably transfer their skills and experience, not to mention passion and dedication, to more commercial pursuits, but don't. Instead, they bring their enormous hearts, experience and passion to bear on promoting something more human, more real.
GR has been instrumental in lifting this culture to new heights and have, over the years, inspired thousands to get involved. One of finest none pornographic, well, maybe apart from Choe, publications we know.

BLEK LE RAT INTERVIEW

25 Magazine interviews Paris street art pioneer, Blek Le Rat.
WORDS BY AMANDA KOGER
Blek Le Rat is one of the most unrecognized names to anyone outside of the art world. This 20th century visionary who got his desire from studying New York City graffiti artists has now transformed the simple love of tagging Paris streets into a full-blown movement. Prophesied as the “godfather of stencil art,” Le Rat has altered the image of graffiti in Europe into an art form. Studying painting and architecture in Paris during the 1980s Le Rat soon realized that he wanted to bring a bigger message of social and political issues to his audience, which makes this Frenchman in a league of his own. With over two decades of putting in work with his stencil in hand, the man behind a movement still has no intentions of slowing down.
Le Rat isn’t just some fly by night graffiti artist; one who comes then disappears before the paint dries. No, Blek has been drawing for years. Some could say for the love of the art but if they ask the artist he would simply say because of the freedom. Blek has given inspiration to many from Shepard Fairley to Oseas Duarte and Bansky. So with no ending insight Le Rek will continue to put the pencil to the wall.
