More pleasant surprises still to be had on the streets of Stavanger. A hidden gem from Escif.
LUCY MCLAUCHLAN NUART
Not sure if I've posted these already and can't be bothered doing a search, anyway, loved the first image and thought I'd add a few close ups. Lucy Mclauchlan for Nuart11.

Blu & Ericailcane 2011
A weird feeling seeing one of Nuart and Stavanger's most visible landmarks get the gentrification treatment, we knew it was coming one day, still didn't make it any less of a shock seeing it get ripped down. I guess we just have to keep on keeping on. At least we had a good 12 months, which is 11 months and 29 days more than Blu got at MoCA in LA

PHLEGM INTERVIEW
A rare interview from our Northern cousin Phlegm who we had the pleasure of working with this year.
Phlegm's large scale and intricate street art has taken many forms over the years. From full colour wall murals to black and white illustrations, with his current pieces looking like they’ve jumped straight from the pages of his sketchbooks on to the walls of South Yorkshire. And latterly, Nuart

SWEZA, URBAN HACKING
Fresh in from Sweza. We love the aesthetic of surveillance culture here at Nu towers.
"Selbstbetrachtung" is an urban video hacking project using existing public infrastructure to create a Video. I try to give the surveillance camera a whole new view on the world, open new perspectives by giving it a vice versa view.

JOSÉ PARLA AT OH WOW
A look at José Parla's show Character Gestures which opened last month at Oh Wow gallery in LA, a great body of work that shows how far the much maligned culture of "tagging" can go.

DAVID CHOE & DVS1 ON THE STREETS
One of the joys of being curator of Nuart, is not knowing what the hell is going on or up half the time, or where or when. Not that we've completely abdicated responsibility for our actions, there's just so much of it. Was great to see this wall in person this weekend, which is just a few hundred meters from my house. Wonder if property prices will go up. lol.

JOSH KEYES EXHIBITION
Josh Keyes latest exhibition at Jonathan LeVine Galley in New York is pretty special. Always impressive and an artist with his brush on the pulse of global issues that go far beyond the world of politics. I think we'll look back one day and say, "Yes, he got it right".

DOLK CANVAS FOR CHARITY
We were contacted recently by Norway's national media channel NRK P3 to see if we could help out with their annual charity event, this time around for the excellent work of Norsk Folkehjelp, or Norwegian People's Aid. Norwegian People’s Aid is the labour movement’s humanitarian organisation for solidarity.
We contacted our man Dolk, and just as we thought, he came up with goods ! Norsk Folkehjelp are actively engaged in mine clearance under their Clearance for Life project giving this piece added meaning.
BOMB SUIT 1/1
Spray paint and acrylic on canvas
70 X 100CM
The work is available on P3's online auction now and at 40000kr with one day to go is looking like a bargain, gallery price being almost double this.

Norsk Folkehjelp
Norwegian People’s Aid is the labour movement’s humanitarian organisation for solidarity. Our goal is human worth and equal rights for all, irrespective of sex, disability, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual preference or social status.
The Norwegian People’s Aid vision is Solidarity in practice. The vision demands commitment and action to protect life and health, build democratic societies and strengthen people’s ability to master their own lives.
We show solidarity in supporting vulnerable groups such as indigenous peoples, poor farmers, women and youth, so that they may themselves have the opportunity to protect and promote their own interests. Our work is based on cooperation between equal partners, not on charity. Charity gives the giver control over the recipient whereas solidarity means respecting the partner’s integrity and their right to set their own conditions.
Norwegian People’s Aid is politically independent but not a politically neutral organisation. We take clear positions in important social debates and our goal of a more just world means that we often choose partners that may be opposed to, or in conflict with, those in power. Popular participation and organisation are important measures in securing human rights and giving people greater influence over their own lives and social development. Norwegian People’s Aid both supports and speaks on behalf of its partner organisations.

SEGO IN MEXICO
Just in from Sego who some of may remember for his earlier collaboration pieces with Roa. The text below really brings home the value and importance of Street Art to communities around the world, it's not all Deitch, MoCA, Sotheby's and Christies. A nice reality check right here.
“PROTEO”
This first video shows the work of Sego, in collaboration with MAMUTT.
The mural "Proteo" was painted in the house of Cauce Ciudadano (cauceciudadano.org.mx/) as part of the urban gallery MAMUTT is doing in collaboration with them.
In this gallery there are also walls by ROA, Saner, Liqen, Dhear, Broken Crow and M-CITY.
We are painting in areas with problems of violence and delinquency (painting on peoples houses and businesses) we create a space where gangs can coexist without violence, helping to build peace, we show that this expression can become a job and a piece of art, it helps to trigger creativity in potential artists, this project also helps those areas by bringing new positive vibes and new ideas to the neighborhood, improving the way people live and interact everyday, we recover public spaces with art.
We work with a specific association called Cauce Ciudadano (certified by Ashoka and the Human Rights Commission Of Mexico City) Cauce is a project focused on working with young gang members and victims of violence.
Our "Urban Gallery" is in the Colonia 7 de Noviembre in the Gustavo A. Madero district, in Mexico City.

MORE FROM ESCIF
This is turning into an Escif blog. Another terrific piece, this time in Besançon (France.
In reference to Pierre-Joseph Proudhon who was a French politician, mutualist philosopher and socialist. He was a member of the French Parliament, and he was the first person to call himself an "anarchist". He is considered among the most influential theorists and organisers of anarchism.
Proudhon, who was born in Besançon, in a house very close to the wall I´ve painted.
His best-known assertion is that Property is Theft! (La propriété c´est le vol) contained in his first major work, What's property?
With that in mind, please feel free to steal these images and distribute.

From Aids benefits in Dallas to Disco's in Beijing, shutters in New York to *wild drug fueled transvestite parties in San Francisco. It's been a busy few months for Eine since we last saw him at the Nuart v's Nhh project in sunny Norway. Which incidentally, threw up the greatest quote ever from a Street Artist. Check it out below.
" 60% of what I earn I re-invest in my art, I could, have a fucking massive house, a fucking sick car, the sickest sound system, a massive telly. I live in a shit flat that costs £450 a month.. you know, I'm not into those material things, I do it cos I like painting"
* we made that bit up
